History
Admiral began in 1948 as a 20' x 50' diaper plant located on a 100' x 100' lot on the outskirts of Houston. We had two washers, three tumblers, a 15 hp boiler and no business.
John D. Trimble had a vision of starting a new linen company to serve this dynamic young city. In February 1948, he resigned his position of Vice-President with Ineeda Linen. In March, he wrote a letter to friends stating that "it looks as if we already have about half a route lined up, and expect enough business for the first truck by the time we open."
On May 1, 1948, along with two other partners, John Trimble started Admiral Linen Service. Business was steady
throughout the years, and Admiral has become one of the major linen companies in
Texas.
In 1978, Admiral had approximately 120 employees, one processing plant, and served just the Houston area. We brought in a new management team and reassessed our marketing position and competitive strengths.
Despite tough economic times during the 1980s, Admiral continued to grow. We purchased and renovated buildings that are now our corporate offices and central garment Stockroom. These buildings are across the street from our Kipling production plant.
In 1984, we opened our first out-of-town Service Center, in the DFW market area. By 1987, company sales had grown more than six times 1978's sales. We purchased a small dry cleaners in San Marcos in the Texas Hill Country. This business eventually grew to become our San Antonio Service Center. From there, in 1991, we expanded into the state capitol of Austin. Our out-of-town growth continued in 1993 when we opened an additional service center in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Most recently, we purchased a facility in Fort Worth. This plant
is now our North Texas Processing Facility. |
